Historically fire retardant fabrics have been very uninspiring and institutional in their design. Fortunately for the interior designers amongst us boring fire retardant fabrics are a thing of the past.
Contract fabric companies are forever launching new collections full of coordinating designs printed onto robust base cloths. Your care home can now have that boutique hotel look in the knowledge that you are meeting all the legal flame retardent requirements.
Why Inherently Fire Retardant Fabrics?
There are no requirements for flame retardancy of any drapes used in domestic or private residential environments however any drapes used in a care home or nursing home setting is subject to flame retardant requirements.
In the past interior designers have treated standard domestic fabrics with a fire retardancy solution. This is fine for a temporary solution where the curtains will be dry cleaned. The treatment is non existent after 4 or 5 washes.
From October 2006 all non- domestic premises in England, Wales and Scotland are required to comply with a new fire safety order.
